Hello, this item is a hand knotted wool Persian style rug made in Iran, identified by the label as an Isfahan design, likely dating to the late 20th century, approximately 1980s to early 2000s. The intricate floral composition, symmetrical central axis, fine drawing of animals and birds, and high knot density are characteristic of Isfahan workshop production, which is known for refined curvilinear patterns and detailed craftsmanship. The cotton foundation, silk like fine wool pile appearance, and commercial export tags indicate it was produced for the international decorative rug market rather than as a custom commissioned atelier piece.
From a market perspective, Iranian Isfahan workshop rugs of this size, approximately 3 × 5 feet, typically sell in the secondary market between 400 USD and 900 USD depending on knot density, condition, and design quality.
Hello,
The attached tags show an original retail sticker price of $1,800, but a retail sticker is not the same thing as current fair market value. Retail prices for rugs usually include store markups, overhead, and “replacement cost” style pricing, and that price often sits well above what the same rug achieves when resold privately or through auction, even when condition is like new.
From a market perspective, most modern small Iranian workshop rugs do not automatically increase in value, and they typically trade below original retail unless they are antique, exceptional quality, silk or silk highlights, signed or from a known master workshop, or have documented provenance and strong demand. In today’s secondary market, a clean, well kept example of this type and size commonly sells in the $400 to $900 USD range
I had two oriental rugs appraised both being in as new condition. One had an attached original price tag of $1800 the other with the price tag for $1200. Every expert I have talked to you about oriental rugs said they go up in value somehow you guys determined that both of those rugs are much less than their original value.
