Oriental Vase
06 August 2020
Description

The vase is 16.5" tall, with a bird motif. It is damaged around the top. It appears that someone has tried to mend it. Not sure of the age. I purchased it at an estate sale several years ago.

What does this mean?

Hi Madge,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This vase was probably made in England or Europe during the 1920s when there was a fashion for Japonisme, or oriental style motifs. The condition issues do keep the value low.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique Japonesque hand-painted and hand-thrown baluster vase
Probably English or European, circa 1920s
of baluster form with scrolling handles, lushly ornamented with birds and flowers. Indistinctly marked underneath.
16 1/2 inches high
CONDITION: with repairs
PROVENANCE: acquired at an estate sale
$50-75*
