14.5 inches X 19.5 inches Wood frame
My grandfather had an office in downtown Chicago
Hello William,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, printing quality and the composition, I concluded that this is a Japanese Woodblock Print by the famous and world renowned printing artist known as Toyokuni III, also known as Utagawa Kunisada. This actually seems like a fragment of the whole print since normally there should be censor marks and seals. The piece is floral and depicting a noble woman in a sorf of garde of roses. On the back of the piece we can detect a sort of guarantee certificate or certificate of authenticity which confirms the origin of the piece. The piece was made in Kunisada's lifetime therefore the back of the piece says 1786-1864 for the period. But it was likely done between 1840-1860 period. Was made on Mlberry paper. Wood Frame. The piece is in fair condition with a frame and a sign for he origin of the frame, but need sto be cleaned and restored partially.
