Hello, this item is an original, signed color photograph by Fritz Henle titled “Sloop at Sunset”. Henle, who earned the nickname “Mr. Rollei” due to his lifelong dedication to the Rolleiflex camera, is especially admired for his mastery of light and classical composition. This work captures a dramatic maritime scene at sunset, with a silhouetted sailboat (sloop) under a vividly rendered sunburst and moody clouds—hallmarks of Henle’s photographic precision and aesthetic sensitivity. The signature and title, clearly handwritten beneath the image, confirm it as an authentic presentation piece. The matting and print are in very good condition, while the backing shows only modest wear, consistent with mid- to late-20th-century framing.
Henle’s marine photographs, though not as widely published as his portraiture or travel photography, are highly collectible due to their formal beauty and technical excellence. This particular print, if vintage (i.e. printed in or near the 1970s), would be especially appealing to collectors of modernist and tropical maritime imagery. Based on auction comparables and known sales of Henle’s signed color photographs, this work holds a fair market value of approximately $700 to $1,000 USD.
