Hi Molly,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
According to AskArt, James Moore Preston (1873–1962) was an American painter and illustrator associated with the Ashcan School, a movement known for depicting everyday life in early 20th-century America. Born in Roxborough, Pennsylvania, Preston studied under Thomas Anshutz at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where he formed connections with artists like Robert Henri and George Luks. In 1898, he furthered his education at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. Preston was married to fellow artist May Wilson Preston.
Preston should not be confused with James D. Preston, a British artist renowned for his impressionistic oil paintings that capture the beauty and light of the countryside.
