primitive covered pot with bell charms
Thrift store
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a cast and forged brass percussion musical instrument, kind of cymbals with ghungroo bells or jingle bells attached. The execution is rather basic, apparently made by an experienced artisan from a rural area. This type of bells has been around since roman times and can be found on tribal jewelry reaching from the Bedouins in northern Africa to Turkey to India. Bedouins and arab artisans usually prefer german silver as a metal alloy, brass is more common in India and the shaped rim resembles mughal India metal craft. Without any markings or ornaments it is difficult to determin a certain area. Production date should be mid 20th century.
The estimate is based on similar tribal objects offered or sold at auction.
