Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is a a pair of Japanese Wall hangings hand painted on a Silk Surface, dating back to the period between 1950-1970. These were very popular touristic gifts and souvenirs from Japan during the mid 20th century. The silk used in these textile are not natral silk but usually a silkish textile material. The natural silk was used heavily during the late 19th century pieces and before. Also in some early 20th century pieces. The first tapestry shows a monk holding a scroll. This is a classical depiction of the wisdom virtue. This virtue is of course accompaned by a crane just like in Chinese style. The second tapestry depicts a noblewoman with a writing set infront of her and a fan on her left hand. Both pieces are marked and inscripted in Japanese. In good condition without any visible fault.
