Hello, We have an oil painting by a Danish artist V. Larsen. This painting was my wife’s grandmothers. My wife remembers seeing it in her grandmothers’ home when she was very young. We are approximately estimating the age of the painting to be at least 65 plus years old. My wifes grandmother immigrated from Denmark and we believe she brought the painting with her. She was known to surround herself with high quality jewelry and fashion. We would like to get an estimate on the value of the painting and we would like to sell it in the most appropriate manner. Thank you. Sincerely, Neil & Vivian Nierenberg

Hello Neil & Vivian,
Thank you very much for submitting your item for an appraisal and for your patience.
The presented object appears to be an oil on canvas painting depicting a mountain scene, which measures approximately 24 x 36 inches. It looks to be in good condition and is signed "V. Larsen" at the bottom right of the composition.
I checked the Benezit Dictionary of Artists and could not find records for any artist by this name active in Denmark or beyond. I found only one other painting attributed to the artist that appears to be by the same hand, which has come up at auction in recent years: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/796798_moutain-and-forest-landscape Unfortunately, this work did not meet the minimum estimate of $600 set by the auction house in 2005.
Given the lack of information available about the artist, a likely attribution would be "European School, XX Century." With this attribution and the overall quality of the work, I would estimate its current fair market value around $200 to 300, though retail and asking prices may vary.
If you have any questions about my appraisal, please let me know in the comments section below. Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
Kind regards,
Anne
