20 years, thought it might be from the New york artist Elsie Beaulah Stevenson...... Measures 15 inches wide by 10 inches high. Bought a house and contents 1996-ish. Attic had sketches and this painting. There was references to NYC but those were destroyed.
Came with house and contents in estate sale when I bought the home. Couple was elderly, the neighbours had said they collected artwork throughout their life. This was on the east coast in Moncton NB, Canada. This is a 10 hour drive from NYC.
Dear Shane,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in tempera or gouache paint on cardboard with the measurements of 10 x 15 inches. The painting in a naive style depicts a landscape with a lake. The used cardboard is an advertisement for the manufacturer of electronic devices "Marconi". On this reverse side, we can read the name Elsie Stevenson and the date 1945. This painting is very weak in comparison to ensured works of Beulah (Elsie Sloan) Stevenson (American, 1890-1965) and this suggests that this painting was not made by her.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 30 to 60 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
