Thank you very much for submitting your painting for an appraisal and for your patience. I was away from my desk for most of last week.

The presented object appears to be an oil on canvas painting which depicts a sunken ship at the bottom of the sea. It measures approximately 2 feet by 3 feet, is framed and looks to be in excellent condition.

I did not find any auction records for this artist (Pavan) nor could I find any biographical information. There are three artworks listed on eBay for $2,200 to $2,400, but it is important to note that these are asking prices and not necessarily a reflection of the fair market value for this artist's work. You'll note that the sellers also write "or best offer," which means that they could be purchased for far less.

One of these listings mentions the artist "Antonio Pavan," and there is a record of his work being sold at auction. However, I do not think that his work is a stylistic match to your painting. Though he is known to paint some maritime scenes, they are characterized by Impressionist brushstrokes and a more neutral color palette.

I would estimate the current fair market value of your painting at $500 to $1,000, though retail and asking price do vary, and I would recommend setting your asking price at $2,000.
