This is a framed painting of numerous small figures in rows with signs of agriculture like farm animals and agrarian tools. It is not clear if they are human figures. There is a mark or signature at the lower right area that looks like "ASFi." The painting is under what appears to be a type of burl wood frame and a floral border frames the scene. It measures 31 inches wide by 37 inches tall.

Hello Rhonda,
Happy New Year. Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be a gouache and ink painting on fabric, in the Chinese folk style, possibly Vietnamese. The depictions of a few figures and architectural structures appear to point to the Hanoi province. The work appears to depict various figures, bulls, and temples in a grid-like orientation. The "ASFI" marking is very curious. We are unable to identify the marking and attribute to a certain artist or company. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of other comparable Vietnamese folk paintings, dating to the early to mid 20th century. However, an in-person examination may be able to provide a more definitive date. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
Oh my. It is so amazing that you know so much about this. It seemed like Vietnam, but I was thrown by the figures and the animals and work being carried out. I am glad I purchased it.
Thanks,
Rhonda
