A 30x36 oil painting of John Rogers, born in Ipswich, MA in 1664, to John and Elizabeth Rogers. His father was president of Harvard. The painting has been passed down through our family since then.
Painted in Boston in the early 1700’s, it has been in the family since then.
Dear Matt,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The apprised object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 36 x 30 inches. The painting is a portrait of Rev. John Rogers in his priest´s cassock. he is shown at the age of approximately in his 60s which would date this painting regarding his biography around 1720. Portraits like these are difficult to sell because the depicted person is not important from the point of view of collectors.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Murphy,
Thank you for your inquiry about consigning through Mearto. When you submitted your item to us for appraisal, did you select "yes" or "maybe" when you were asked if it was for sale? If so, your item automatically entered a database, which is accessed by a number of regional and international auction houses actively seeking new items for consignment. If there is any interest, they will contact you directly through our platform. You will receive an email notification if one of them makes an inquiry. If you selected "no" when asked if the item was for sale, you can change this so that your item enters the database. Just visit "my collection," select the item, then click the "edit item" button at the top of the page. On the resulting page, click "yes" or "maybe" to answer the question: "Are you looking to sell this item?" Good luck and if there's anything else I can do to help, please just let me know!
With kind regards,
Georg
Georg,
It has been a while since you provided this estimate. Since then my wife and I have come to the conclusion that we simply won’t have a place to hang it in our home and, therefore, would like to sell it. Is this something your company can facilitate?
Stay well,
Matt
