The smaller painting is 19in (W) and 23in (L) It also has a wooden frame and has a paper backing. I have researched the name on the frame however maybe a appraiser would know his work.
Came from grandparent who stated it was expensive however unable to find any information on the artist
Dear Kimberly,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on board with the measurements of 23 x 19 inches. It depicts a shepherd with his dog and is signed with the name J. J. Cool. Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases. This painting was made around 1860 or 1880.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
