Dear Abigail,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 25 x 17 inches. This artwork depicts a nude with a Lyra accompanied by two cherubs. The scene is located in a cave. The woman could be identified as the muse Erato with her attribute the Lyra (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erato). The painting is not signed. It was probably made around 1880 in France. The composition and the style indicate an academically educated artist.
This piece is in medium to good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.000 to 2.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
Dear Abigail,
Thank you for your response. This is definitely a French painting around 1880. The realism of the depiction of the composition of the anatomy and the light is typical for the period of Historism. Have a great weekend.
With kind regards,
George
Thanks for your clarification, much appreciated
Dear Abigail,
you are very welcome.

Is there any chance at all that this is a 17th century painting? The note my grandfather made attributed it to the 17th century, but it could very well not be correct.
