The appraised work is a catalogue on Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) written by Fritz Novotny published by Phaidon in 1937. Novotny was an Austrian art historian and expert on the work of Cezanne. The book is notable as the first English-translated edition of the author’s tome devoted to the paintings and drawings of the artist. The book includes 126 plates and a color frontispiece. The estimate provided is based on recent comparables recently offered at auction. In many cases, pricing for similar works available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
