Hello Cathy,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and I am very grateful for your patience. The item presented appears to be color woodblock by Paul Jacoulet (Japan/France; 1902 – 1960) titled "Les Paradisiers, Menado, Celebes." The work was published in an edition of 350 in 1937. The print appears to be signed by the artist and stamped with the title to the margin.
Paul Jacoulet emigrated to Japan at age six and lived there for most of his life. He is celebrated for his synthesis of Japanese ukiyo-e and western influences in his woodblocks. t is believed that Jacoulet only created about 166 different prints, many of which were destroyed.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work by Jacoulet. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you for bringing this to Mearto. It is a great print. Please take care.
