This rug was purchased in 1995 at AJA Antiques and Art in La Jolla, CA. It is a hand made silk Persian Kashan. It has been very lightly used, mostly in our home office. Now downsizing ,it does not fit in the new home.
6' X 9'
Hello, this item is a Persian Kashan style rug, likely produced in the late 20th century, described as silk but requiring careful qualification. The design follows a classic Kashan layout with an all over floral field, symmetrical palmettes, and a dark, highly detailed border. However, from the close up image, the structure appears extremely regular and uniform, with a grid like foundation that suggests either a silk on cotton construction or a very fine machine made or semi machine assisted weave rather than a fully hand knotted pure silk rug. True hand knotted Kashan silk rugs show slight irregularities in knotting and foundation, while here the precision is very consistent. The condition appears good with minimal wear, and the size of 6 x 9 feet is standard for decorative and residential use. The receipt from AJA Antiques in La Jolla dated 1995 supports a retail gallery purchase, which at that time often included both genuine Persian pieces and high quality workshop or export rugs.
From a market perspective, fully hand knotted Persian Kashan silk rugs of this size can reach several thousand dollars, often between $4,000 and $10,000 USD depending on knot density and provenance. However, pieces that are silk blend, silk on cotton, or machine assisted typically trade much lower. Based on visual evidence and typical secondary market behavior, this example would most realistically fall in the range of $1,200 to $2,500 USD as a fair market value. The original purchase price noted on the receipt appears around $1,225 USD, which aligns with a mid tier decorative or workshop level piece at the time.
