Iranian handwoven with limited known history. We purchased this rug with our second home, where it has been kept with virtually no traffic for last 20 years. It was professionally cleaned in 2024 when we remodeled our home - pickup/cleaning/storage/dropoff were all handled by our insurance company and paperwork can be provided as requested. It has a faint line of sun fading across the short end of the rug, as seen in the picture facing patio doors. Otherwise it is in exceptional condition - colors are rich and vibrant, pile is remarkably soft and dense, with no visible signs of wear.
20x14
Hello, this item is a large hand-knotted Persian carpet measuring approximately 20 by 14 feet, woven in wool pile on cotton foundation, featuring a dense all-over floral and medallion design with deep indigo ground, burgundy field, and complex botanical borders. Based on the knot structure visible on the reverse, the relatively fine weave, and the classical palace-style layout, this rug dates to the late 20th century, most likely produced in Iran for the export luxury home market rather than as an antique workshop piece. The woven label and construction are consistent with commercial high-grade Persian production from the 1980s to early 2000s, sometimes marketed as “palace rugs.” The design draws from Kashan and Isfahan traditions, combining curvilinear floral motifs with layered border systems intended for large formal interiors.
Condition is very good overall, with soft, dense pile, intact fringes, strong saturated colors, and no visible structural damage. The faint line of sun fading noted on one short end is minor relative to the overall size and does not materially impact functionality or decorative value. Given the substantial dimensions, quality of weave, and present condition, comparable modern Persian carpets of this scale typically sell on today’s secondary market between USD 6,000 and USD 12,000, depending on buyer demand and retail channel.
