Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Contemporary Persian Sarouk Rug, dating back to the period between 1920-1950. Sarouk Rugs were very particular pieces from the Iran's Central North Provinces, Small Town of Sarouk. Sarouk rugs are a type specifically known in United States, it is not popular or high in demand in Europe. A company called Ziengle&Co established their ways to the Iran in late 19th century and started to produce rug for the American taste to meet the demand for rugs frfom the region. Lilihan and Sarouk pieces were high in demand at the time. This production of Ziegler continued throughout the early 20th century and they usually produced pieces is no central medallion or just a small central medallion formed by a single flower. Your piece was not a Ziegler piece but it was a production of the familiar style. It is a later Sarouk likely from early 1940's although it might be an earlier production. When we observe the patterns of your piece we can easily see that all pattern is floral. To enhace the pattern, vases were added to the composition as decorative elements which enrich the floral impression. The decoration is highly symmetrical, a proof that the piece was produced by a lot of care and time. A piece like this could take four months for two people to knot. Knot densitty seems high since the motifs were rendered in high quality and there is no muddy look we can detect on the piece. The fringes were most likely taken care of at sometime during it's lifetime, normally these piece have longer fringes. The colour and the patterns are actually not a native design but more like a commercial product to apply to American taste at the time. Knotted wool on cotton. In very good condition without any visible problems.
