Folding chair made by peruvian artist. Regular size. Hand made. Woven leather for back and seat.
I found it at a garage sale. I've seen similar chairs linked to a specific artist as part of a project american furniture makers had going on in the mid 20th century to encourage local artisans
Hi Amy,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've seen chairs like this made throughout South and Central America (and Mexico), all for the tourist trade; is this marked that it is specifically made in Peru? The designs on the motif are highly stylized and could refer equally to Aztec, Mayan, Incan or Olmec.
If you'd like this appraisal to include dimensions, which is typical, please forward the overall height, width across the arms and depth at your convenience and I'll update this ASAP.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A South or Central American export studio embossed leather folding armchair
mid 20th Century
The folding wooden frame with leather back embossed with Pre-Columbian designs, the open-weave seat raised on four squared legs.
