Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a caucasian Kazak / Karabagh rug. Please excuse for not being able to pinpoint the village. The antique rug has a geometric and tribal design and the typical colour changes of the fabric which are typical for antique tribal rugs. Some colors have faded and there are light damages which can be restored. Prices for antique rugs differ on a large scale. The estimate is based on similar sold or offered at auction. Condition and fading might be an issue. "Asking prices" in the trade can be much higher.
Klaus - thanks for all your insight. Are you able to clarify for me that this seems to be an antique and not vintage? decade?
Hi Danielle, sorry for the delay. Depends on what you consider antique. Some are willing to call a fifty year old rug " semi antique". I would consider the rug in your possession to be older than 80 years which is "antique" in rug terms. In the area of general antiques something has to be over 100 years old. I don´t see a value of over $ 1500. In general the rug prices are down and there is only a very small group of collectors.
Thank you Klaus for your response -
Great to pin-point the Kazak / Karabagh! So that means it came from Azerbaijan? And would be considered a Vintage Persian Rug.
Do you have an idea of the decade? Just want to confirm - it is considered antique and not a vintage?
And material- 100% wool?
Asking price / retail price - you are suggesting could be higher than $1500?
