brass and wood flintlock. Purchased in 1954 from PCL German, London UK
PCL German paperwork says it is a fully stocked brass barreled converted holster (sea service type) pistol by WBond of London, dae of pistol 1780, converted to percussion circa 1820
Dear Margaret,
Thank you for your help and patience
The presented object appears to be a percussion lock muzzle-loading pistol made by William Bond of London probably in the 1770s. This piece is engraved on the steel lock with W. Bond. William Bond was the founder of a family of gunsmiths in London who was active from 1768 to1876. Especially his son Philip Bond (active1776-1800) is known for producing numerous brass barrel pocket pistols and smaller firearms that are resistant against the corrosion of the salt of the sea in comparison to steel barrels and a favorite choice for the firearm of the British Navy. This pistol was changed from a flintlock system to a percussion lock system.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
