Porcelain tobacco leaf motif lidded dish with bronze ormolu mounts and crystal finial. Hand painted with gold accents and crackle finish. Marked with a makers mark. I can find this exact piece online but they all appear to be "new/contemporary reproductions" and there is no photo of the bottom with a makers mark. I attempted to source the mark on the bottom of my piece but was unsuccessful in finding anything. I would like to determine if my piece is vintage or a reproduction.
7 1/2 inches long , 5 7/8 inches wide and 9 inches tall
Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a 20th Century reproduction. I've run that mark through several marks databases I have access to and can't find a match but this is a classic Chinese export Tobacco Leaf pattern covered dish, almost certainly made during the last half of the 20th Century
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Chinese export style "Tobacco Leaf" parcel gilt covered footed cup
bearing the unattributed mark "O.D. 1893"
Of circular section with domed cover with glass or crystal finial, parcel gilt rim, both the lid and body with foliate decoration, on a crackled white ground, all on a squared gilt base with short feet. Marked.
9 inches tall, 7-1/2 inches long , 5-7/8 inches wide
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: acquired at a yard sale
$75-125*
