The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 14 x 12 inches. The painting depicts a portrait of an elderly woman with a scarf over her head and has the title "Mrs. Montour - Indian Woman". This title is noted on the reverse side of the artwork besides the dating 1861 and the artist's name John Hammond. This note was made in the 20th century. John A. HAMMOND (1843-1939) was a Canadian artist and made mainly landscape paintings.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
