Roberto Montenegro was a painter, muralist and illustrator, and who was one of the first artists to be involved in the Mexican muralism movement after the Mexican Revolution. From the 1940s to the 1960s, he produced a series of self-portraits combining mannerism and popular art elements, and your painting is an example of this period.
