The sword is in excellent condition - very heavy and balanced. It has been painted and when part of the paint was removed, it shows an anchor engraved on the blade
Overall length is 32 inches - blade is 1.25 inches at the hilt. Hilt is 5 inches long and hand guard is 4 x 4.5 inches

A beautiful 1800's Era Navy Sword that follows 1827 Pattern Sabre, from most likely mid 19th century. The 1800s era saw significant advancements in naval warfare and the development of various types of swords used by the navy. During this period, naval officers often carried swords as a symbol of their rank and authority, as well as for self-defense in close-quarters combat.
This sword has a ‘Gothic’ flair forming a half-basket and presenting an oval cartouche containing a fouled anchor and crown. The blade was of the pipe-back type, ending in a quill point and sometimes incorporating a large, flared cutting edge to the rear of the blade’s final third or quarter. The grip was covered in large-nodule white shagreen: dark shagreen still denoting warrant officers’ ownership.
