This is a bowl that I bought at a very high end estate sale. I loved the color (charcoal and gold) and the free form, modern design. The weight of this bowl is 2 pounds 7.6 ounces. It is approximately 6.25" wide and stands approximately 2" tall. It is unsigned.
Unfortunately I do not have any information about the provenance of this piece except that it was purchased at a very nice estate sale.
This is a vintage, mid 20th century, about 1950 - 1960, hand blown glass bowl that was made in Murano, Italy. It is Mid Century Modern style and done in what is referred to as aventurine (gold) and puleguso (the flecked areas). This can be attributed to Venini, Seguso or Barbini, all of whom worked in this glass style. It is similar to designs also by Flavio Poli and Carlo Sarpa. There are a fair amount of bowls similar to yours by all of these makers in the same color scheme and amoeba form with polished pontil. These were intended to be ashtrays. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
Thanks so much for your appraisal. I really liked this piece when I saw at the estate sale... only had to pay $12.50 for it since it was heavily discounted for the last day of the sale...often the only day I go!!! I'm glad to know correct terminology for the colors and style.
Best regards,
Virginia
