Its 12 inches Tall & 10 inches across. On the bottom it reads Schofield co. & Sterling Fine (hard to read). Has a ding front of trophy. This is the entire writing on the front: Swartwout Trophy, Maryland Yacht Racing Association, Presidents Cup Regatta, Severn River, September 12 & 13 1930. F. Class Outboard Amateur First Prize. Won By Lee F. Washington Jr.
EBay! It was presented by Herbert Hoover to Lee F. Washington, Jr., winner of the amateur division of the Presidents Cup Regatta. I haven’t found anything on Lee.
Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few images of the silver marks?
Thanks
Thank you for uploading additional photos.
It is a very nice cup made of sterlingsilver by the Schofield Co.
The Schofield Co. was founded by Frank M. Schofield as the Baltimore Silversmiths Mfg. Co.in 1905. The name was changed to The Schofield Co. in 1930. Schofield was acquired by The Stieff Co. in 1967. They are makers of sterling flatware and hollowware.
The provenance of the cup is adding to the value as well as the size of the cup also adds to the value.
I like the idea that you are collecting yachting memorabilia for your daughters wedding and hope you all have a fantastic wedding day and party.
Should you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to contact me again.
I added some photos. I think this is such a cool piece and it’s HUGE! I wish I knew more about Lee F. Washington Jr who was an amateur raceboat driver in 1930. My daughter is getting married in the Antique Boat Museum in the Thousand Islands so I’ve been buying yachting loving cups for floral arrangements. I almost didn’t bid on this because it looked pewter in the photo. I nearly died when I got it!
