Hi MIlton,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
According to the serial number AB958129 and this website (https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-ab-series-serial-numbers.html), your machine was built in December 1927, making it almost an antique (which must be 100 years or older). The AB prefix was used in the mid-to-late 1920s, and for a 1927 machine, production would have been part of the large output from this facility, which at its peak was the largest sewing machine factory in the world. It was manufactured in Clydebank, Scotland at the Singer factory known as the Kilbowie plant.
So few people use sewing machines these days that the market is somewhat flooded by them. With considerably less demand than supply, prices remain modest with most models by Singer - the gold-standard in sewing machines - with those in tables usually bringing less than $200. The beautiful tiger-maple graining on this table adds to this value, which is unlikely to exceed $300.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique gilt stencil and ebonized Singer sewing machine
Serial number AB958129, made in Scotland in December 1927
With foot treadle, in a tiger maple table.
CONDITION: This sewing machine appears to be in generally good condition.
