The appraised work appears to be an oil on board painting executed by Austrian artist Rudolf Stoitzner (1873-1933). The painting is a floral still life with a large white and blue porcelain vase seated on a ledge filled with red and pink roses. The artist was born in Vienna into a family of artists. Both of his brothers Karl and Konstantin were well-known painters in the 19th century. Stoitzner began his artistic training under Konstantin and then studied in Dresden and Berlin. He often painted floral and fruit still lifes, which has its roots in the Netherlands, beginning in the 17th century. Often floral still lifes were painted in meticulous detail, illustrating the importance and prevalence of botanical books and floral studies popular at the time.
