Dear Julian,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload an images of the signature to the lower corner?
Thank you.
Thank you Julian,
Unfortunately, I was unable to firmly attribute the work to an artist. I ran an extensive reserve image search on both the print and the signature and receive no hits. Although it does happen from time to time with prints, it is very rare. This leads me to believe the print is likely a proof or trial impression.
At this time, a fair market value estimate of $100 - 500 would be placed on this print. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of abstract and modern lithographic prints, dating to the mid to late 20th century. These records range in artist attribution and edition size.
I am sorry for my lack of information. I will continue to ran searched on this print and reach out to a few colleagues outside of Mearto for opinion. I will comment on this thread if any further information is collected. Thank you and please take care.
I found the artist name. Peter Bodner. The print is untitled. Does that provide better information?
Hello Julian. That is amazing! Peter Bodnar is a listed artist, born in Czechoslovakia in 1928. Now retired, he was an art professor at The University of Illinois, Urbana and is based on Chicago. He does not have a lot of auction records but his work been auctions at Sotheby's. In recent years, some of his prints have been seen on the block at regional auction houses (not this print, as of now). The auction estimates for lithographs by Bodnar fall in the $100 - 300 range. Therefore the original estimate provide remains the same. Thank you for the find!
Uploaded the image requested.
