Overall length 55 in.
Given to me as a gift some 35 years ago
Dear Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and I wish you a Happy New Year 2021.
The presented object appears to be a British-produced Tower flintlock rifle with an overall length of 55 inches. The stock was made out of nut wood and is decorated in a second step with brass decor nails or hobnails. The lock is stamped by Tower and there should be a British proof stamp. Such brass decors were used by Native American Tribes but also like Western groups like Trappers and other professional hunters. This rifle was made around 1800 or at the beginning of the 19th century because of the flintlock.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 700 to 1.400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
