Purchased from London, England Antique Clock dealer in 1970 and shipped to USA. Dealer said at that time it was built around 1725 in London
This is an antique tall case grandfather clock that was built in London. There is not a listed clockmaker or horologist by the name of Robert Temple from London. It is possible Robert Temple was an apprentice or somehow associated with the London based guild known as the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers which was granted a charter in 1631. It is recommended to contact the association to see if they may have some information on a Robert Temple; currently their clockmasters list of records does not include this name. The assessment here presumes this is indeed an early 18th century clock, however it does not serve as an authentication of age. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
