TITLE:
Gents Steelinox stainless steel, self-winding, water resistant (100m), center seconds wristwatch (Dressy or Casual wear) with blue dial, Brushed Steelinox (904L steel) Stainless Steel Oyster Bracelet with fold over clasp with logo (B70400), “Oyster Perpetual 39 Blue” model, Ref. 114300- A60, SN 019U11L0, made by Rolex, Geneva, Switzerland, circa 2015/2016. (The watch is accompanied by a full set of papers and tags.)
PROVENANCE:
“I purchased this watch pre-owned but unworn on July 17, 2016 from an established pre-owned Rolex seller. The watch's authenticity is guaranteed by the seller and has been verified by a Rolex authorized dealer. It has been in my personal possession and use since that date.” Today’s date is 07/23/2021.
DESCRIPTION:
CASE: 39mm diameter, three leaf, polished and brushed stainless steel, tonneau shaped watch case with polished round bezel with fluted crown (screwed down), tonneau case best seen from the back cover which is screwed down with a knurled edge and has harp shaped lugs. The watch is integrated with a Steelinox stainless steel link Oyster bracelet, three links wide with trademarked fold over clasp.
DIAL: Satiné blue sunburst dial with steel Cornet logo @12 and luminous steel enclosed batons at 3, 6, & 9 and ebonized batons at the balance of the hours. There is an open uniform size bar minutes/seconds track with green cubist markers placed every five minutes around the dial. There are luminous faceted baton hands and a center seconds sweeping pointer. The dial is marked, “Rolex, Oyster, Perpetual, Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified” with “Swiss Made” at the base of the dial.
MOVEMENT: Not shown but assumed to be the Rolex caliber 3132, 28.50mm in diameter, 31 jewels, automatic winding, vibrating @28800 beats/hour with a power reserve of 48 hours, and has the following functions: Hours, Minutes, Seconds and Chronometer. The movement is signed Rolex and carries the serial number cited above

Pricing: Originally in 2015 when this model was first made it was retail priced at $5940, during 2016 and 2017 it rose to $6175 and in 2020 reached $6352 retail. Today that number is about $8000+.

** During the past decade many “auction” houses have popped up in major centers around the country to sell Swiss made watches and others as well. It is obvious to me that their sales (and most items are not sold or passed at these houses), are base on upper end retail prices. It almost provides me, as the appraiser with the feeling that they do not care if an item is sold or not, as if they are propped up by the Swiss watch market itself. I first discovered this in Las Vegas with clocks which were passed unless they reached an inordinately high price. The houses in Las Vegas continued to switch their name and yet they were at the same location. Now I see it as the prices of the very best calibre wristwatches have begun to rise. Let me also say that pricing when you buy something at Sotheby’s, Christies or Bonhams has always represented a retail price to me, not fair market value. But these are tradition brick and mortar auctions which have a reputation based on many decades of service. The operations that I am currently referring to based only on their performance, estimates and sales or passing of items include the following, and I consider them Retail auctions: Bidhaus in New York City, Cambi Casa D'Aste in Italy, Diamond and Jewelry Auction in Los Angeles, auctions Online in Las Vegas, NY Elizabeth ships from Beverly Hills, California and Gulf Coast coin and Jewelry from Ft. Meyers, Florida. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Therefore, at my own discretion I eliminate their results as not representing anything close to fair market value. They are Retail auctioneers.
HISTORY:
Released in Baselworld 2015, Rolex introduces a series of new Oyster Perpetual models in various case sizes ranging from 26, 31, 34 and 39mm diameter with each model available with a set of color options for the dial. Regarded by many as the simplest yet one of the most charming contemporary models introduced by Rolex, the history of the Oyster perpetual goes far beyond the history of the Oyster perpetual Datejust and the Submariner making it one of the most important attributes to the history and development of the firm.
The Rolex ref. 114300 in a 39mm diameter case was first introduced with three dial options, grey, purple and blue. The present example features a BLUE dial with GREEN accents on the hour markers providing a sense of refreshing vibrancy to the present example, especially under sunlight as it displays the magnificent spectrum of the BLUISH hue. Presented in “unworn” condition, the present specimen is AS new. It is accompanied by the original guarantee dated 2019 and its presentation box. Calibre 3132 is a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. It features a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, offering greater resistance to shocks and to extreme conditions. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3132 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.
On the subject of e-bay the same holds true but is a grey area. The Ebay sellers who are charging and getting $6000-$7000 for the ref. 114300 are retailers online that have been able to buy at fair market value and resell on Ebay. It is difficult to name them and they are less obvious. It makes it very difficult to properly provide prices for fine watches. It has the effect of pushing up prices that I supply to you as the client, as I have done in this example on a watch that I would have listed in the mid-$5500 range but because of e-bay pricing, I have to elevate the fair market value to $6000-$7000
PRICING:
Not only is your watch beautiful and aesthetically a great choice in colors, it is just the top of the line when it comes to this model. If you were to go out and try to sell your watch to a friend or interested party, the fair market value for you to charge would fall into the range of $6000-$7000 since you could go on E-bay as a seller and may well get that amount from a client and I would have to consider that fair market value. Retail prices are over $8000 at this point and the retail auctioneers are looking to get close to five figures for this watch, but are not getting that amount as of this date. My best wishes to you on buying a watch that should continue to rise gradually in the fair market place, as well as on the retail side. But, do not base prices that you would receive when you yourself go out to sell this watch with what any retailer gets for the same article.
