A pair of hand painted Chinoiserie Rose Famile antique lamps.
Hi Victoria,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Famille Rose porcelain appealed to historians and collectors for many reasons. It was introduced in the early 18th century (Qing dynasty, Yongzheng–Qianlong) and used opaque pinks and pastels made possible by gold-based enamels. These allowed subtle shading, modeling of faces, and painterly depth that earlier palettes couldn’t achieve. The softer enamels - which stood out against the glassy white porcelain - let artists render figures, flowers, birds, and court scenes with near-miniature precision. Many pieces tell stories—romance, filial piety, immortals—making them visually engaging and culturally rich.
Your lamps are 20th Century reproductions but still capture the aesthetic appeal of the earlier examples.
Lamp values rarely carry over from the primary retail market to the secondary auction market, meaning that while these might have been costly to acquire when new, they don't bring nearly the same values when offered at auction; other pairs of Famille Rose porcelain lamps of comparable vintage and size (while you don't include the overall heights of the bodies, it looks like these are about 24 inches high) that have come to the secondary auction recently have sold in the $200-300 range; you might get $400 for the pair if you tried to sell them.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
