Shidler Bros Mfg I am wondering what this table is worth. It just survived a flood. All the legs split on the curved foot. I need to know for insurance purposes what it was worth before that happened and personally, I’d like to know because I am wanting to get it repaired.
Hi Silvia,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Mearto doesn't provide damage/loss insurance replacement appraisals but what we can do is give you an idea of what the value was PRIOR to the damage and what the item is currently worth.
Shidler Brothers Manufacturing Company was a prominent furniture manufacturer based in South Bend, Indiana, during the early 20th century. Founded by brothers John Willard and Adam N. Shidler, the company specialized in producing high-quality dining and office tables. Their products were known for their craftsmanship and were distributed widely.
In 1923, the company shifted its focus from manufacturing to retail, establishing Shidler Brothers Incorporated at 112 South Michigan Street in South Bend. This retail business continued well into the 1950s, offering a range of furniture to the local community.
Your table was made in the Colonial Revival style, a period that began in the late 19th Century following the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876; it embraced a nostalgia for American Colonial history and material culture. It continued well into the 1950s before being supplanted by modernism.
Your attractive table is still serviceable (as compared to furniture forms like desks and other now-outdated items); similar tables have been selling for between $700-900 at auction but with the damage to the legs, yours is now worth $400-600.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Only the bottoms of the legs had water damage.
I've indicated that in the appraisal. This is complete now.
