Dear Yassine,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and for your patience!

The presented object appears to be a mixed media (pencil and watercolor) paper sketch of a male figure in a pre-Colombian style. The work measures approximately 35 x 25 cm. and has been attributed to the Mexican artist, Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991) due to the presence of the signature "Tamayo" at the bottom right of the composition. This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.

The presented object is very similar but not identical to this work, which sold at Millea Brothers in New Jersey in 2022: https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/rufino-tamayo-pencil-watercolor-on-paper-1972-1109-c-d6e46cbb16

Therefore, the unfortunate conclusion from this investigation is that the work of art presented is most likely a forgery, which holds no market value.

Kind regards,
Anne
