Hello Annette,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Indian Made Oriental Rug. The piecce likely dates back to the period from 1970-1990. The piece is in style of Persian Tabriz rugs with Indian interpretations. The piece is entirely florally decorated. The colour palette is quite different from the original Persian pieces, this piece is not combinig the colours well as much as the Persian Tabriz pieces but embraces it's own palette. The piece is centrally decorated bu the central medallion is bledning in perfectly with the continuous floral pattern by not revealing itself clearly. The central medallion is a single flower accompanied by four extending lilies from the sides. The central area's base is coloured with a dark green tone while the borders of the piece are knotted on an ivory base. The piece is knotted wool on cotton, the cotton foundation appears to be treated and therefore quite shiny. The knot density of the piece is average and therefore the motifs are rendered in an average clarity. Very interesting and rare floral motifs that we do not usually see on Oriental Rugs since these are Indian/Chinese contributions to rug production. The piece is in good condition without visible problems.
Entirely hand knotted.
