Hello Megan,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Rug-Kilim. The piece dates back to the period from 1950 to 1980. The knot type of the rug is Persian or asymmetrical knot which was never used in Turkish pieces. Therefore this is not a Turkish rug. Also it is not a carpet but rather a Kilim. If you observe the nots the knots are sometimes going horizontal like a knitwork which is a common technique used in Persian Kilims. Some weavers of Sumakh ans Shaseven kilims also does knot pieces like this one. The general composition and pattern of the piece is floral. Centrally decorated with a central medallion also characterized by floral motifs. The base colour of the central area is a pale salmon colour, while the borders of the piece was knotted on a pale blue base. Borders are also floral. The knot density of the piece is average for a kilim, low for a carpet. The piece was knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. Star and Leaf motifs are common on the piece. The piece is in good condition without visible problems.
