TITLE:
Gent’s gold-plated steel, self-winding, mechanical, center seconds, day-date, ovoid shaped, wristwatch with gold plated steel and steel link bracelet and Seiko deployment clasp with logo, S/N 440322, ref. 7006/5009 with 7006-5019S dial, made by Seiko, Tokyo, Japan, April 1974.
PROVENANCE:
Belonged to client’s father.
DESCRIPTION:
CASE: 39mm diameter, two leaf, cushion shaped gold-plated steel case with rounded and canted bezel in the form of the mid-20th century TV screens (ovoid), winding and setting crown and screwed down case back cover marked Seiko with electric logo in the center. Around that is engraved, “Stainless steel back, 7006:5009, water resistant, 440322.Japan/g”. The wristwatch is integrated with its original, two tone, stainless steel and gold-plated steel link bracelet with steel deployment clasp, with logo. The case is water resistant.
DIAL: Ovoid champagne colored gilt metal dial with applied baton hour indices with luminous ends, open elongated bar minutes/seconds, day/date rectangular aperture @3. Luminous steel baton hands and center seconds pointer. Dial is marked, “Seiko Automatic, 17 jewels, electric logo, 7006-5019S”.
MOVEMENT: Not shown but assumed to be the Seiko caliber 7006A, 27.4mm diameter, mechanical self-winding movement, sweep seconds, day set by changing 21:30-24h with the date being quickset, 17 jewels, vibrating at a frequency of 21600 beats/hour and having a power reserve of 43 hours on a single winding. ‘Diashock’ shock absorbing system. (See the History for the story of the 7000-caliber series of movements.)
CONDITION:
CASE – Moderate scratches and wear to the case and wear to the gold tone finish. The bracelet is worn and links are not tight as when new.
DIAL – very good condition.
MOVEMENT – Not seen but assumed original to this case, genuine and functional.
Overall condition is good.
HISTORY OF THE SEIKO 7000:
The 7000 series was a family of mid-range mechanical watch movements from Seiko from the 1970's through the 1990's.
Produced from 1973, the 7000 family was a mid-range mechanical offering. It was the basis for the popular 7S26 family, and its descendants remain in production today. The family operated at the same 21,600 beats/hour still used by midrange Seiko mechanisms and all offered 43 hours of power reserve. All members of the family feature Seiko's bi-directional Magic Lever winding system.
There were three versions of the 7000 family before the introduction of the 7S26 with its new quickset day and date mechanism and other improvements:
The original 7005/7006/7025 movements appeared in the early 1970's; had quickset date but not day
The line expanded to include cam switching modular chronographs with the 7015/7016/7017/7018; quickset day by pushing the crown
The line was resurrected in the 1980's as the 7001/7002/7009/7019/7039
The 7005 and 7006 (date only and day/date respectively) designs were re-used and updated in the 1980's as the 7002 and 7009. These later movements were optimized for price and mechanized production, using many more stamped steel and plastic parts. Although they have proven fairly robust, their accuracy has suffered due to this change. . . . . . . . . .

PRICING:
If offered on today's market watch market I believe the fair market value would be in the $80-$100 range, with retail pricing about twice that amount. It remains a fine vintage watch however, and quite good looking, although not in a style that is desirous in today's marketplace where "big is better". I hope you understand the
