24 knives 12 spoons 12 soup spoons 6 large (serving?) spoons 12 large forks 12 small forks
My mother (died at 90 yrs old this year) inherited them from her mother or was given them as a wedding present?
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful flatware service. Such vintage and antique silverware are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The flatware has a lovely decoration at the end of each handle - it is a mussel decoration that was very modern during the early 1900s. It was a decoration that was made by almost every silversmith each of them putting their own personal touch to the mussel.
The silver marks would be on the back of the handles. The appraisal is assuming that the flatware is made of silver. As the blades are English I would presume that the handles are English too.
It is nice that the set is complete with 12 of each different piece plus the servers. It adds up to 78 pieces in all. It appears to have only few signs of wear and use.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online silver auction, where I believe the flatware has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely flatware. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
