I do not know much about this item other than I believe it was purchased in China approximately30 years ago. It has scalloped edges, a stamp on the bottom, is brightly colored and shows a bit of wear as shown in one of the photos. I believe it may be porcelain, but cannot be certain.
Nine-inch diameter with an approximate one inch rise
Hello Heidi,

Based on the images and information you provided, this item is:
A vintage, mid 20th century, Chinese export Celadon plate. Chinese export celadon plates are a type of ceramic dish that was produced in China and then exported to other countries, particularly during the Ming and Qing dynasties (14th to 19th centuries). Celadon is a distinctive type of pottery known for its pale green or grayish-green glaze, which was achieved through specific firing techniques and the use of iron-rich clay. These plates were highly prized and sought after in international trade due to their unique appearance and craftsmanship.
The celadon glaze, which gives the plates their characteristic color, is achieved by firing the ceramics in a reduction atmosphere, where the presence of oxygen is limited. This process leads to the development of the green color and often results in subtle variations in hue.
