This is a Sharps Carbine from the Civil War Era by both the North and the South and in the western frontier after the war. This particular piece is in distressed condition, with most of the original finish missing and significant amounts of oxidation on the metal. It is missing the hammer screw, and the tang is cracked at one of the screw points.
