Sideboard Commode
I really don't know how old this is or where it's from. When I purchased it in La Jolla, California 20 years ago I was told it was from a castle in Spain from the 1500's. The castle could have been from the 1500's. The pieces may not be that old. There is also a round matching side table
I have the original key that opens the middle door, There are 2 shelves inside. The piece is curved and there are doors on each side that open. I have it listed on ebay using a similar title from a similar piece. This is an early 20th century sideboard with burled wood veneer in a light tone wood and pewter metal type mounts. This style was not in existence in the 1500's nor was the process of veneering used on furniture in that period. It is more likely that the castle had parts built in the 1500's, but this furniture is not 16th century. In addition, rosewood is a dark grained wood, and this is a light colored burled wood and the Sheraton style is denoted by straight clean lines and classical elements; of which this is not Sheraton style. This would be best labeled as Napoleon III style. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables.
