Hi Tamara,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Andrew Wyeth’s "Friendship Sloop" is a significant watercolor painting that showcases his deep connection to the Maine coast, particularly the Port Clyde and Cushing areas where he spent summers and drew creative inspiration. The Friendship sloop is a traditional Maine fishing boat, named after the town of Friendship, Maine. Such sloops became symbolic of New England maritime life, known for their elegant lines and utility in rough northern waters. Wyeth often used local objects—boats, barns, tools—as metaphors for character, solitude, and perseverance.
By the time it was painted in 1959, Wyeth was well-established and deeply immersed in painting the Maine and Chadds Ford, PA., landscapes.
This same print has sold recently in a couple of different auctions, bringing prices between $300 and $500.
