Hello Julia,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is a Chinese Hand Knotted Silk Rug-Tapestry dating from 1950 to 1990. It is of course very hard to name a knot density or a knotting technique without a photograph from the back of the piece but I can clearly say that this piece is very densely knotted. The pieces decoration is divided to six different panels to shape a storyline on the carpet. These depictions are probably the Chinese equivalent of what we do call "Fragonard" design in European Art. This means they are depicting daily scenes from the court life or the daily life of nobles. This design was very famous in mid-century.
The frame of the piece appears to be wooden, in very good shape and proportions. One of the leading factors to determine this piece's authenticity of being a hand knotted piece is that it's edges are all not very linear, instead they are somehow wavy. This is due to the lack of precision of the weaver, a real person can not knot perfectly like a machine. A very decorative and valuable piece in overall. Made of silk material.
Entirely hand knotted and framed.
