6 British silver demitasse cupholders with 5 china demitasse liners and saucers. One of the 5 liners has a small broken-off piece which is included. Set in satin lined leather case; satin is stamped with George Edward & Sons Silversmiths, Glascow.
Purchased by my father in Glasgow, Scotland appx 1978
This is a vintage 20th century silk or satin-lined boxed set of English china demitasse cups and saucer with sterling silver cup holders. The set should originally have 6 cups, 6 sterling holders and 6 saucers. There is one cup and saucer missing, though all 6 sterling holders still remain. The mark on the bone china is that of the maker named Crown Staffordshire. The English Register number on these, 302032, indicate these were produced in 1897. The sterling cup holders have English silver hallmarks from London. The lion striding is for sterling silver from England, the panther head is for London and the small case letter 'a' is for the year 1896. It is presumed that George Edward and Sons were the silversmiths, unless there are additional silversmith initials on the sterling holders. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
I’ve added one more photo of the saucer’s stamp that possibly shows “Staffordshire” beneath the crown. I will use a better camera this evening fun r some clearer shots.
Please add a view more images of the marks on the underside of some of the plates and cups to show the most clearly stamped mark so I can decipher the maker mark.
