Model number on motor identifies as BZ9-8 and seriel number eg 855142 plate identifies as made in 1951. However, searches for comparable machines all look different. The only model which looks identical is one listed on etsy as a 1926 model. No, the serial number wouldn't / shouldn't change if they change the motor. The general rule is to use the later number to date the machine, because manufacturers in 1926 couldn't have predicted how the numbers would change through the years.
Regretably, even rare and high-end Singer machine models are not bringing much at auction these days; at most a few hundred dollars with the vast majority of antique and vintage Singers bringing less than $100. Sites like Etsy are retail sites, with prices sometimes being negotiable; Mearto provides fair-market values, for auction purposes, which are often quite a bit lower than retail prices.
Does this say "featherweight" on it? What does the gold oval plaque above the serial number say?

Hi there Delia. It is not a featherweight. I looked up the seriel number for featherweights. The gold oval plaque says ' the singer manfg co' with the trademark. Many thanks Louise
