Sword is in good condition Unknown maker
Hello, this item is a Japanese-style single-edged sword with a black lacquered scabbard, circular tsuba, gilt-toned fittings, and a wrapped grip. The form relates broadly to a katana or short katana style, but the photographs do not show clear features that would confirm it as a World War II Japanese military sword. The mountings appear more decorative than regulation wartime guntō fittings, and the blade surface, fittings, and scabbard suggest a later 20th-century decorative or souvenir sword rather than a traditionally forged Japanese nihontō.
The sword appears complete and in good display condition, with scabbard and fittings present, but value is limited by the lack of visible maker’s marks, tang photographs, arsenal stamps, or documentation connecting it to wartime service. If the handle can be safely removed and the tang shows a signature, date, file marks, or arsenal stamp, the value could change. Based on the current photographs, the fair market value is $75 - $200 USD.
