Hello Erika,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. I apologize for the delay in your appraisal and thank you for your patience. The item presented appears to be a silvered tabletop sculpture of an eagle perched on a with floral accents. The box appears to be marked "iwakami" and "eagle." I do not see any other identifying markings. These markings do not appear to match typical signatures found on works attributed to Oshima Joun.
After some time researching the item's depiction, our researchers found other examples of the same sculpture attributed to an artist called "Hidemasa." However, the markings on the item presented also do not match the markings found on those Hidemasa examples. With that said, it appears much deeper research is required to firmly attribute this work to Oshima Joun (Japanese, 1858 - 1940).
Nevertheless, if this sculpture could be firmly attributed to Oshima Joun, the object may received an auction evaluation and estimate of $2,000 - 4,000 (USD). This estimate is based on recent auction estimates and results of silver works attributed to Oshima Joun (Japanese, 1858 - 1940) over the past 3 years at regional and major auction houses.
The estimate is contingent on a full condition report and weight of silver material. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
